Spring '03 So, I turned down a position as The Red & Black's managing editor, took off a semester of school and moved to D.C. for the next leg of my journey. I was awarded a four-month internship between February and May with the Washington Center for Politics and Journalism. The program's 12 interns are all assigned to various D.C. bureaus and twice weekly we meet with internship coordinator Terry Michael for luncheon seminars featuring veteran journalists and bigwigs like Al Hunt and George Stephanopoulus. As for me, I would have been fine with any bureau. But, I ended up with my dream assignment. I had the thrill of working at the Wall Street Journal, one of the world's largest and most influential newspapers, during a time of war. I also met some of the most fantastic people I'll ever encounter and have some crazy stories. More to come. Summer '03 While it was difficult to return home May 21 (four days before my 21st birthday) I couldn't wait to start my next adventure, an internship with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where I worked on the business desk downtown. I'm not only, as a number of other interns, as seen below, are scattered throughout the AJC ranks. This truly is a dream come true for me -- since 4th grade, I yearned to be an AJC writer like Braves beat reporter I.J. Rosenberg. So, after a four-month stay in D.C., I'm back home, working for one of the south's biggest papers. Now: I'm now enjoying my coolest job yet as The Red & Black's editor-in-chief throughout the fall and spring semesters of my senior year. Thus far, it's been an amazing experience. Luckily, we had a terrific staff of veteran desk editors and talented staffers filling our reporting ranks. And I look forward to continuing the fun ride through the rest of the school year. |
