Sophomore to junior year In the summer of 2002, I interned at the Savannah Morning News, where I covered government issues, congressional races and local politics. In my nine weeks in the SAV, I managed to land on the front page several times and wrote more than 50 articles on an array of political-related topics. I mainly covered 12th District Congressional race, city council issues, the craziness stemming from Tybee Island, cool spot news and much more. While back in my beloved Athens during the fall of 2002, I took over the government beat during an exciting election season. I always had an abundance to write about. Not only was the University making huge budget cuts throughout campus and Republicans made history in the Georgia statehouse, there was also plenty of campaign craziness in Athens as well. I also covered just about every other topic on campus, ranging from University ridiculousness to athletic scandals to parking woes -- even a basketball story.
